Queen’s University Belfast, officially The Queen’s University of Belfast, is a public university for research and education in Belfast, Northern Ireland, United Kingdom. The University was established in 1845 under Queen’s College, Belfast, and was inaugurated four years later.
The University provides academic degrees at different levels, with about 300-degree programs. The Vice-chancellor and president are currently Ian Greer. The annual revenue of the University for the year 2020-21 was PS395.8 million, of which PS88.6 million came from research grants and contracts, and the expenditure was PS373.5 million.

The institution’s beginnings can be traced back to Belfast Academical Institution, which was established in 1810, and continues to be it is today the Royal Belfast Academical Institution. When it was first opened, it included 23 professors and 195 students. Students in the early days of Queen’s University Belfast took the University of London examinations.
In 1908, the Irish Universities Act 1908 dismantled The Royal University of Ireland, which had altered it into the Queen’s University of Ireland in 1879. The act also created two universities, the present National University of Ireland and the Queen’s University of Belfast.
Alongside the main campus located on the southern outskirts of Belfast city center, Queen’s University Belfast has two affiliated university colleges, St Mary’s and Stranmillis, located in the south-west and west of the city, respectively. These colleges offer teacher education for those who want to work in teaching and a variety of degree programs, each of which is built around a liberal art base.
Additionally, although they refer to their primary campus as a campus, the buildings of the University are scattered across several streets that are public in South Belfast, mainly University Road, University Square, University Street, Malone Road along with Stranmillis Road, with other departments further away including Titanic Quarter and Portaferry.
